The Roland Rangers split their two games played against Central last week, beating the Tigers 5-4 at home on April 6 to snap a 12game losing streak, but then fell 1-0 in eight innings to the Tigers last Thursday night in the opening-round of the Central Tiger Shootout.
On Friday, the Rangers beat the Westville Yellowjackets 12-4 in five innings in the consolation semifinals.
Roland’s final games in the tournament were rained out last Friday, and the exact dates when the final games of the tournament will be played were not known at press time.
The Rangers (4-13) broke a 2-all tie with a run in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning for a 5-2 lead.
For the game, Avery Moya was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored, Austin Benham was 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and an RBI and Ryder Bean doubled and Payton Serjeant scored once courtesy running for Bean.
Laken Honeycutt (1–4) got his first win of the season, going the first five innings with 10 strikeouts. Alex Brant went the final two innings with three strikeouts.
In the loss to Central, Central’s Kage Poindexter hit a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to walk it off for Central.
In defeat, Alex Brant was 2-for-3 with a double for Roland.
Honeycutt suffered the loss in relief, going the final 1.2 innings with five strikeouts. Brant got the start and went the first six innings with 11 strikeouts.
In the win over Westville, the Rangers broke a 1-all tie with five-run second inning. A tworun fifth inning put the game into run-rule status.
For the contest, Bean went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, Honeycutt went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Brant went 2-for-3 with a run scored, Benham doubled with three RBIs and three runs scored, Channing McKinney doubled with an RBI and a run scored and Derrick Allen doubled and scored twice for Ro-land.
Hunter Burris (1-2) got his first win of the season, going all five innings with eight strikeouts.
