Gans Lady Grizzlies suffer losses to McCurtain, RCT defeats to Keota, Arkoma
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

It was a rough week for the Gans Lady Grizzlies slow-pitch softball team as they lost all four games played last week.

To start the week, they lost twice at home on April 6, losing 12-3 in five innings to the McCurtain varsity and 8-0 in five innings to the McCurtain junior varsity.

In the 2026 Riverside Conference Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament last Friday in Stigler, the Lady Grizzlies lost 9-1 to Keota in five innings and 5-4 to Arkoma.

In the loss to the Mc-Curtain varsity, the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-0 by the fourth inning, and they scored five runs in the fifth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Abigail Leach was 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, two runs batted in and a run scored, while Yesenia Gaona doubled and scored once for the Lady Grizzlies (4-12), whose game at Haileyville on April 7 was canceled. Gaona (2-8) took the loss.

In the loss to the Mc-Curtain JV, McCurtain pitcher Avrie Ford fourhit the Lady Grizzlies.

A five-run second inning put the McCurtain junior varsity ahead 6-0. Single runs in the fourth and fifth innings put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Leach, Gaona, Audrie Moody and KrisLynn Martin each singled for Gans.

Nora Barnes (0-2) suffered the loss, going the first three innings. Leach went the final two innings.

In the tournament loss to Keota, Keota pitcher Danielle Drummonds pitched a fiveinning two-hitter, with those hits being Leach’s triple and Taylor Barger’s single.

Gaona took the loss, going the first four innings. Barnes finished the game.

In the tournament loss to Arkoma, the Lady Mustangs rallied from a 3-1 second-inning deficit by scoring four runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead. The Lady Grizzlies scored once in the sixth inning to cut their deficit to 5-4 but got no closer.

In defeat, Barnes was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Makenzy Hunter singled with an RBI and a run scored and Barger singled with an RBI and Leach and Brighton Dorsey singled for Gans.

Gaona suffered the loss in relief, going the final 1.2 innings and giving up the gamewinning run. Barnes got the start and went the first 3.1 innings. Gans pitchers only allowed an earned run as four of Arkoma’s runs were unearned due to three errors.

The Lady Grizzlies were sent to Whitesboro along with Bennington for next week’s Class A District Tournament.
