It was a rough week of baseball for the Roland Rangers last week, which ended with a heartbreaking 2-1 road loss to the Muldrow Bulldogs on Friday afternoon.
The week started with a home District 3A-8 doubleheader loss to the Beggs Golden Demons on April 13 by scores of 3-0 and 4-3, followed by a 12-4 five-inning road loss to Panama last Thursday.
In the loss to Muldrow, the Rangers (4-17) broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fourth inning, only to see the ’Dogs walk it off with a two-run seventh inning.
In defeat, Austin Benham, Alex Brant and Hunter Burris each single for Roland’s three hits.
Burris (1-3) was the hard-luck loser as he struck out four batters in 6.2 innings.
In the first district loss to Beggs, Beggs pitcher Jerrett Hammer threw a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts.
In defeat, Benham, Brant, Derrick Allen and Laken Honeycutt all singled for Rangers (2-12 in district play).
Honeycutt (1-5) was the hard-luck loser as he struck out eight batters in seven innings.
In the nightcap in which the Golden Demons were home, Beggs walked it off with a tworun seventh inning.
In defeat, Brant tripled, Honeycutt and Brett Mauldin each singled with a run batted in and Benham and Channing McKinney each singled and scored once for Roland.
Brant (1-4) took the loss as he fanned three batters in 6.2 innings.
In the loss to Panama, the Razorbacks broke a 4-all tie with a pair of four-run innings in the fourth and fifth innings to put the game into runrule status.
In defeat, Honeycutt was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Brant was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored, Benham was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Ryder Bean hit his first home run of the season for Roland.
Mauldin (0-3) suffered the loss going four innings with a strikeout.
