The Muldrow Cherokee Community Organization (MCCO) helped keep local families warm this winter by giving away more than 100 coats and winter care kits to community members on Jan. 3.
Each winter kit included essential coldweather items such as a blanket, hat, socks and mittens. The event was made possible through the combined efforts of community volunteers, partner organizations and generous donors.
MCCO director Tashaa Harris expressed deep appreciation for the volunteers who arrived early and worked together to ensure the event ran smoothly. Their efforts, she said, made a meaningful difference for families in need during the coldest time of the year.
Special recognition was also given to the Cherokee Nation and its scholarship program, which allows students to volunteer and give back to their communities. MCCO leaders noted that the program not only supports community service but also helps develop future leaders through handson involvement.
Harris said a key partner in the event was Running Strong for American Indian Youth, which donated all of the coats and winter kits distributed.
“This giveaway would not have been possible without Running Strong’s continued generosity and support,” Harris said. “Seeing our community come together to take care of one another is what this is all about.”
MCCO expressed gratitude to the Cherokee Nation for partnerships that help ensure community members stay warm and supported throughout the winter season.
