The Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Office has completed its investigation into recent social media threats directed at Moffett Public Schools, concluding that while charges will be pursued, the juvenile involved did not have the means or ability to carry out the threat.
Working in cooperation with Arkansas law enforcement partners, investigators conducted extensive interviews and gathered evidence related to the threatening statements. Authorities confirmed the case will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review and potential prosecution.
Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane said findings from the investigation have been shared with school administrators.
“After the investigation and interviews, we have reported our findings to Moffett School administrators,” Lane said. “While we will be filing charges and advocating for, at minimum, a strict counseling protocol for this young man, we do not believe he has the means or the ability to carry out the threats he shared on social media.”
Because the individual involved is a juvenile, authorities said limited information can be released under privacy laws.
Investigators determined there were no firearms in the juvenile’s home and that he did not have access to weapons. Based on those findings, law enforcement officials stated they do not believe he had the capability to act on the threats made online.
The Sheriff ’s Office said it is working with the juvenile’s family and appropriate agencies to ensure intervention and support services are put in place.
Officials emphasized that all threats involving schools or the public are treated with the utmost seriousness, regardless of perceived intent or capability. As a precaution, additional safety measures may remain in place.
The Sheriff ’s Office expressed appreciation to Moffett School administrators, Arkansas law enforcement agencies, and community members for their cooperation and vigilance throughout the investigation.
