The holiday season was made brighter for students and families across the Muldrow area thanks to a largescale community effort led by the Muldrow Cherokee Community Organization (MCCO) in partnership with Toys for Tots.
Through the collaboration, every student served by MCCO received a Christmas gift, a gesture that organizers said reflected the generosity of countless donors and volunteers working behind the scenes. The effort brought smiles and moments of joy to children whose families may not have realized how much a helping hand was needed during the season.
MCCO Director Tashaa Harris said the success of the initiative was rooted in faith, partnership and community support.
“I want to thank God for allowing me to be part of this wonderful community and for giving me the opportunity to bring Toys for Tots to our area,” Harris said. “With God’s guidance, we were able to bring in more than 25,000 toys valued at over $200,000 and serve 27 schools, churches and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. None of this would have been possible without Him guiding me every step of the way.”
Harris also credited Sam Gramlich of Toys for Tots for making the partnership possible, as well as Running Strong for American Indian Youth for supporting efforts to serve Native families and strengthen the community.
Behind the scenes, dozens of individuals and organizations contributed time, resources and facilities to ensure the program’s success. Harris expressed gratitude to her family for their long hours of help, MCCO staff and board members for their continued encouragement, and community partners who provided essential support such as warehouse space, utilities and equipment.
A special acknowledgment was also given to the many volunteers who organized and sorted toys and ensured they reached children who needed them most.
“This was truly a community effort,” Harris said. “Because of everyone who stepped up, our families were able to experience a joyful and meaningful holiday season.”
Organizers said the overwhelming support demonstrated the power of community collaboration and generosity, leaving a lasting impact well beyond Christmas morning.
