Central Tigers finish fifth in Roland Wood Bat Tournament
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

The Central Tigers baseball team finished fifth in last weekend’s Roland Wood Bat Tournament by defeating the Keys Cougars 4-3 on Saturday afternoon after splitting Friday’s poolplay games — nipping the Muldrow Bulldogs 2-1 after falling 7-1 to the Cameron Yellowjackets.

Last week started with a pair of road losses March 24 in Cameron as the host Yellowjackets beat them 12-5 and the Pocola Indians defeated them 12-0 in three innings.

In the fifth-place game victory over Keys, the Tigers (5-9) broke a 3-all tie in the seventh inning on Aiden Smith’s steal of home plate.

For the game, Xhaiden Mosby doubled, Kage Poindexter singled with a run batted in and Hardy Buzzard and Waylen Campbell each singled for Central.

Ryker Miller (1-2) got his first win of the season as he came in and finished the final 2.1 innings with four strikeouts. After Mosby got the first out of the game, Campbell went the next 4.1 innings with seven Ks.

In the win over Muldrow, the Tigers scored twice in the opening inning for a 2-0, only to see the Bulldogs cut the deficit in half in the home half of the frame on Jace Prewett’s RBI single to cut the deficit to 2-1 after an inning.

From there, it was a pitcher’s dual between Central’s Kiefer Bailey and Muldrow’s duo of Wyatt and Jace Prewett.

Bailey (3-1) got the win as he went all five innings with nine strikeouts.

Wyatt Prewett took the loss, going the first two innings with four strikeouts. Jace Prewett went the final three innings with six Ks.

For the game, Poindexter singled with an RBI, while Paitton Merrill singled for Central.

In the tournament loss to Cameron, the Yellowjackets scored three runs in the second inning and four runs in the fourth inning for a 7-0 lead.

In defeat, Buzzard was 2-for-2 for Central.

Buzzard (0-4) took the loss, going the first three innings with a strikeout. Miller went the final inning with two strikeouts.

In the March 24 road loss to Cameron, the ’Jackets rallied from a 3-1 second-inning deficit with an eight-run second inning and a run in the third inning to put the ’Jackets ahead 12-3 after three innings.

In defeat, Aidan Sainer was 2-for-3, Merrill was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, Campbell was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored, Buzzard doubled and scored once and Poindexter doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Central.

Campbell (1-1) took the loss, going the first 1.1 innings with a strikeout. Buzzard went the final 2.2 innings with three Ks.

In the loss to Pocola, Pocola pitcher Ty Jerrell threw two-hitter with five strikeouts.

The Indians scored twice in the first inning and 10 runs in the second inning to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Kyle Harden tripled and Poindexter singled for Central.

Miller suffered the loss, going 1.2 innings with a strikeout. Bailey got the final out of the game.
