Funeral services for Howard Wayne Watts, 75, of Roland, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the Agent & Mallory-Martin Chapel in Muldrow. Burial was at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark., under the direction of Agent & Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Mr. Watts was born on May 4, 1949, in Fort Smith to Howard Thomas Watts and Lois Betty (Akins) Watts. He died on Friday, May 31, 2024, in Fort Smith.
He was a retired school teacher and bus driver. He taught for 30 years and received the National Teacher of the Year Award. He was a former mayor of the Town of Roland and was of the Assembly of God faith.
Survivors include two sisters, Sharon Mason of Roland and Carol Woods of Huntington, Ark.; one grandson; and other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara Anne (Petty) Watts; and one brother, Alvin Ramer.
Pallbearers were Steve Wilson, Ronnie Mackey, Leslie Barrow, Larry Tate, Gerald Harvell and Vernon Davis.
