Michael J. Rogers

Michael J. “Big Mike” or “Big’N” Rogers, 65, of Muldrow, passed peacefully on Friday, May 10, 2024. He was born on Nov. 6, 1958, in Fort Smith, Ark., to Norma Francis (Wagers) Rogers and Herman J. Rogers, Jr.

He was married to Kathryn Hug on Oct. 22, 1983, in Fort Smith.

Mike graduated from Muldrow High School and was a 1981 graduate of Oklahoma State University where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Animal Science. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, Blair “Doodlebug” and John Rogers “J.R.” They covered lots of miles riding around in the “War Wagon” on the back roads in Redland. They were his pride and joy and he spoiled them rotten. Big Mike always wanted to be remembered for treating everyone the same. He retired from the U.S. Postal service after serving for 29 years as a city letter carrier. Mike also served for over 20 years as a volunteer firefighter. Cooking and barbecuing were Mike’s love language – he felt that food was the way to anyone’s heart. He often showed up with food to let people know they were special. He was blessed to have great friends and family, as well as, a wonderful church family at First Assembly of God Church in Muldrow. Over the years, he belonged to several different organizations and community activities locally and statewide such as, Redland Fire Department, President of Leaders for Education in Agriculture, board member of Connors State College Foundation, Master Mason and member of Bruton Masonic Lodge 30 and member of Redland Cemetery Committee.

Survivors are wife of 40 years, Kathy Rogers of the home; two daughters, Katie Rogers of Omaha, Neb., and Margaret “Maggie” Dillard (Cole) of Muldrow; two grandchildren, Blair “Doodlebug” and John Rogers “J.R.” Dillard; one brother, Mark Rogers (Toni) of Owasso; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of cousins; and his special brothers, “The Connors Boys,” for almost 50 years, Clovis, Claude, Festus, Mayhan, Pookie, Rainbo, Rooster, Spiffy, Stump and Tiger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norma Francis (Wagers) Rogers and Herman Rogers, Jr.; a sister, Sheryl June Rogers; maternal grandparents, George and Bessie (Jordan) Wagers and paternal grandparents, Herman and Jewell (Butcher) Rogers.

Active pallbearers were Kenneth Wayne Brannon, Jason Boyett, Jason McPeak, Jeff McPeak, Blake Nelson, Pat Plank, Dr. Ron Ramming, James Carroll Rogers, Skylar Rogers and Rick Russell.

Honorary pallbearers were “The Connors Boys,” Jerry McPeak, Gary “Doc” Harding, Dr. Gary Updyke, the Reeves Brothers (Bryant, Brent, and Brad), Bill Sam Mabray, Tom Cosner, David Gray, Jim Ed Mabray and Andrew Linker.

Viewing was noon to 8 p.m. Monday, Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Muldrow, with the family present for visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral Service was at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at First Assembly of God Church in Muldrow. Burial service was at 1:30 p.m. at Redland Cemetery in Muldrow, under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Quyen Ha and his staff, Dr. Brent Reeves and the Baptist Hospital nurses and doctors for their kindness, care and support they showed Michael.
