Muldrow looks to grab its first victory of the season on Friday night when the Bulldogs host Sequoyah-Tahlequah in a non-district high school football contest.
The kickoff inside Aubrey J. Henshaw Bulldog Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs fell 20-7 to rival Roland at Ranger Field on Thursday night in their season opener.
Sequoyah scrimmaged Skiatook and Catoosa last week.
Muldrow and Sequoyah were scheduled to play in 2020 but because of COVID-19 concerns Sequoyah canceled its entire season.
In their last meeting in 2019 the Bulldogs downed the Indians 26-21 at Tahlequah.
First-year Muldrow head coach Brandon Ellis would like to see improvement from his team this week.
“If we play like we did last week it’s anybody’s ballgame,” Ellis said. “Sequoyah’s always been traditionally tough and that’s the way we’re going to pursue this and it’s going to be a test for our kids.”
Sequoyah’s base offense is the spread.
“They’ll try you deep every now and then and little quick passes and they’re going to try to run the ball a little bit,” said Ellis.
Muldrow’s Defensive Keys
“This week we’ve got to know our assignments, make the right calls and get in the right positions to make tackles,” Ellis said. “We’re going to have to tackle better than what we did last week.”
In the Roland game Muldrow’s leading tacklers were Kaden Chandler (15 total tackles), Trenden Collins and Bricen Limore (8 each), Joshua Price and Eli Crumrine (7 apiece), Bobby Plank and Hayden Livermore (5 each) and Creighton Smith (4). Smith had three tackles for loss and Limore had one, Camden Matthews intercepted a pass and Collins broke up two passes.
Sequoyah’s base defense is the 4-3.
Muldrow’s Offensive Keys
“On offense we have to stay on blocks and get the right assignments on who to block and we’ve just got to get tough,” said Ellis. “We’ve got to get physical. The kids are going to have to make a choice.”
Quarterback Reid Sutton completed 13-of-22 passes for 138 yards and one touchdown with one interception against Roland. Muldrow’s pass catchers were Trenden Collins (5 catchers for 56 yards and one TD), Brayden Akins (2 for 26), Camden Matthews (2 for 14) and Joshua Price (2 for 12), Kaden Chandler (1 for 20) and Derrick Corbit (1 for 8).
Chandler rushed for 45 yards on 17 carries and Collins totaled seven yards on two attempts.
