Spiro lost twice (60-56 and 63-58) to the Rangers in Northeastern Oklahoma Athletic Association (NOAA) action this season and the Bulldogs’ other losses were at 4A unranked Stilwell (65-55) and at home to 4A No. 10 Broken Bow (66-52). Two of Spiro’s notable wins in the regular season were over Class B No. 18 Red Oak (81-40) in the first round of the Wilburton Tournament and 2A No. 12 Talihina (65-53) in the finals of the LeFlore County Tournament in Spiro.
In addition to their wins over Spiro, the Rangers also defeated 3A No. 8 Idabel (57-39), Talihina and Broken Bow in Talihina’s Choctaw Nation Invitational Tournament (CNIT) and 5A No. 13 Will Rogers and 5A No. 11 in the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) Tournament. Roland, which lost 58-57 at unranked 4A Checotah and 63-62 at home to Idabel, won three tournaments (CNIT, Armstrong Bank Sequoyah County Area Classic and the NEO Tournament) during the regular season.
The Roland-Spiro loser will take on Hugo, unranked Idabel, No. 13 Marietta or Kansas at 8 p.m. on Saturday in Okemah to determine the final Area IV state tournament qualifier.
