Rejoice…Be Anxious for Nothing!
Commentary
August 26, 2025
Rejoice…Be Anxious for Nothing!
By Shirley R. Watts

“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!”

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:1-7).

Paul encourages us “to stand fast in the Lord, to “be of the same mind in the Lord” (v.1-2).

To “stand fast” is to be “unyielding, unshaken.” We must stand fast, “be of the same mind in the Lord.” Think like Jesus!

As we stand fast we “rejoice in our Lord always”… “to be anxious for nothing, pray about everything, be thankful, making our request to God”…who is the Living God and is in control. When this takes place we will experience “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

There is so much evil and chaos in the world today, it seems as though evil could win, but as Christians we know evil does not win but will be judged and cast into lake of fire forever (Rev. 20).

We must stay calm, “be anxious for nothing” experiencing the “peace of God.” We are not to worry! We must keep our hearts and minds in tune with what God has called us to do… rejoice, worship, witness and pray!

There is victory over worry! To be anxious is “to be pulled in different directions.” Sometimes we may feel pulled apart or strangled. Worry affects us in many ways. It affects our ability to think as we should.

We are to think spiritually! Worry causes wrong thinking and wrong feelings in the heart about circumstances, people and things. Worry steals our joy. It lurks about seeking to destroy our witness in Christ…our thinking, feelings, our prayer and study time.

Today, worry is inviting the Christians to let down their guard, to yield, be shaken about the world situations. Worry is an inside job! When our mind is secure in Christ peace will enter our hearts. Secure is to be free from apprehension knowing we are safe and confident in God who is in control!

Pray! We must pray right! We should begin with praise to Him, be devoted and worship Him with sincere and humble heart believing He is all we need.

There is nothing happening that does not come by His Throne first. We can feel assured that He is in control and we should let Him know that we are not going to spend our time worrying and miss out on His blessings. He is in control! Praise Him!

When was the last time you actually emptied your heart and mind to Him in prayer, giving Him thanks for what He has done, is doing and will do for us? We must see Him in all His power resting on His promises to keep us, bringing us home to Heaven.

Our Father in Heaven is bigger than worry! He is bigger than politics, mankind, and Nations. He is the all powerful, all knowing and all present God. We can watch Him solve all problems as we secure our mind and heart in Christ when we do not worry!

I believe that prayer and Bible study are missing in most Christian lives, and local churches.

When we pray, lets adore Him…honor Him above all. Supplication is pouring out our souls with sincerity. Then right praying is being thankful unto God. Let Him hear our “thank you” prayer!

Is your mind secure? Do you have the “peace of God” today with all the spread of evil?

Do you pray about everything? This is the first step to victory over worry. We don’t need to worry (Ps. 37). God is in control. “I will fear no evil” (Psalm 23:4).

Unbelievers: You are a sinner! You don’t have peace with God, therefore no “peace of God!” You must be born again to have peace with God, then you can experience the “peace of God.” To be born again will bring you under the wings of security, protection and peace.

Jesus came to save sinners!

My prayer is that you will accept Christ today!
