The Roland Board of Education approved a slate of personnel changes, financial items and future planning measures during its regular meeting on April 13.
Board members unanimously approved the hiring of several new staff members following an executive session focused on employment needs across the district.
Those hired include Makya Perryman as an elementary teacher, Holly Harvell as an early childhood teacher and Jonathan Teague as a middle school math teacher.
In athletics, the board approved Jeremy Thompson as head football coach and Caleb Cawhorn as head girls basketball coach.
Emily Morgan was hired as a counselor and special education teacher, and Ashley Braiser was approved for an elementary cafeteria position.
The board also accepted a number of retirements and resignations.
Retiring from the district are Krista Howard, Carla Orendorff and Brenda Green.
Resignations were accepted from Jonathon Harvey, Abby Smith, Matthew Farris and Scott Nelke.
Chris and Caitlin Waters were also present at the meeting to reportedly address the board members.
In other business, the board approved student transfer capacities for the upcoming school year, outlining available space in several grade levels, including openings in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first grade, eighth grade and senior classes.
Board members also approved the district’s participation in the federal E-Rate program for the 2026–27 school year, allowing the district to seek funding assistance for telecommunications and internet services. Additional approvals included a shared services contract with Brushy Public Schools for a part-time technology director technician, renewal of certificates of deposit at Firstar Bank, and the purchase of new curriculum materials.
The board gave the green light to various campus improvement projects and approved coursework through Indian Capital Technology Center to count toward graduation requirements.
Leah Agent was also approved as an adjunct instructor for anatomy and physiology.
Superintendent Lori Wiggins reported that state testing is currently underway and noted a busy schedule of endof- year activities ahead.
She also discussed ongoing considerations for potential property purchases and future construction projects aimed at enhancing district facilities.
The board approved monthly financial reports and encumbrances before adjourning the meeting at 8:28 p.m.
