God’s Heart Desire
Commentary
August 12, 2025
God’s Heart Desire
By Shirley R. Watts

“What does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the LORD and His statutes which I command you today for your good” (Deut. 10:12-14)?

I think sometimes we forget what God’s Heart desires of us. The Bible says that when we fulfill His Heart’s desire then He will grant us the desires of our heart.” “Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4).

God created mankind for fellowship. But sin was introduced through the wicked one. But God did not give up on us. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). We were all guilty before Him (Romans 3:23). It would take innocent blood to give us the forgiveness of sin. And the power of His resurrection to give us eternal life. He seals us with the power of His Holy Spirit until the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30). What an amazing and merciful God! We have the privilege of worship and of service to Him. That is, to those who will humble themselves, confess their sin, ask forgiveness and place their faith in Him. That is the first thing man can do to give God the desire of His Heart, and that is to acknowledge His Son.

We have been forgiven! Secure in Him! Eternal life! Yes! we will escape the Great Tribulation, we will reign with Him in the Millennium, escape the Great White Throne Judgment, and escape the condemnation to Hell. Then it is eternity with Him in a New Heaven and a New Earth! When we think about this and it is just the beginning, why do we not “fulfill His Heart’s desire with our true worship, love and service from “a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from a sincere faith” (I Timothy 1:5)? “Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart (Psalm 32:11)!

Pleasing God

We must go into “all the world and preach the gospel” (Mark 16:15). He wants to use us to sow the good seed and see souls added to His Kingdom. He wants us praise Him for who He is, to be thankful for all He does. He wants to see us on our knees before Him in prayer. Where is the burden for the lost today???

I believe we are really grieving His Spirit. He wants to see a forgiving people, loving one another. He delights in seeing His Son in us! He wants true worship. What will it take to give Him His Heart’s desire? Love Him above all! It will take dedication, serving Him only. Studying His Word, praying in the Holy Spirit, and applying His Word in our lives. Then He is pleased! Do you want to please Him? One way to please Him is to witness. Are you sowing the good seed of the gospel? Do you have a burden for a lost person? Do we mourn over one we know is going to hell? Do we mourn over sin? Did you know it takes prayer for the lost before they can be saved and they must be convicted by the Word of God. Who will pray for them? When we begin to humble ourselves, we will see a great harvest of souls. What are you doing to glorify the Lord? Are you pleasing Him?

God the Father loves us, saved us and is coming for us. Let us fulfill the desires of His Heart with our lives.

To the individuals who have not accepted Christ as their Savior. God loves you, created you for fellowship, but Satan has placed a veil over your eyes soyoucan’tseethetruth. You can have Christ remove that veil right now. Pray to Him and confess your sins, acknowledge His Son, ask Him to save you, be sincere and He will. Don’t put if off any longer.
