The Kindness Krew awarded Sallisaw High School senior Latisha James and Central High School senior Elizabeth Ortiz scholarships on April 23.
Through a huge garage sale fundraiser last year, The Kindness Krew was able to raise enough money to give two $500 scholarships.
“We were able to give each student gift cards totaling $500 each for furnishing their dorm rooms. This is very similar to a nationally known organization called “Move in Day,” The Kindness Krew President Judy Martens said. “We will be holding our sale again this year the first weekend in June, with the hopes of continuing this scholarship opportunity next year.”
The Kindness Krew was organized six years ago. In the beginning, the group was just volunteers aiding the hospital with projects. They have since expanded into helping Pastors Fellowship with their Christmas Gift Giveaway and Back to School Program.
The Kindness Krew also helps prepare goody bags for the children chosen for “Shop with a Cop” by the Sallisaw FOP at Christmastime, all of which they hope to continue.
The Kindness Krew is a faith-based volunteer group and are willing to lend a helping hand to any organization in need.
