Roland Rangers go 1-3 last week on the diamond; pitcher no-hits Poteau

The Roland Rangers entered Easter weekend on a down note as they went through a 1-3 week last week.

The Rangers’ only win came Thursday afternoon at Town Creek Park in Poteau as they got a four-inning 11-1 win over the Pirates in a game called due reaching run-rule status.

Last week saw the Rangers lose backto- back District 3A-8 games to the Morris Eagles, who routed the Rangers 16-3 in four innings on April 14 and squeaked past the Rangers 8-7 on April 15 in Morris. Last week ended with a 13-11 road loss to the Gore Pirates on Good Friday afternoon.

In the win over Poteau, the Rangers (315) broke a scoreless tie with a seven-run second inning, a single run in the third inning and a three-run fourth inning for an 11-0 lead to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Channing McKinney was 2-for-2 with a run batted in, Alex Brant was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and a run scored and Raesean Perryman was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored for Roland.

Colton Peters (1-3) got his first win of the season as he threw a four-inning no-hitter with two strikeouts.

In the home loss to Morris, the Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the second inning. The Rangers (1-7 in district play) scored once in their half of the second inning to cut their deficit to 4-1, but got no closer as the Eagles had a pair of six-run innings in the third and fourth innings for a 16-1 lead to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Austin Foster was 2-for-2 with two runs scored for Roland.

Hunter Burris (1-3) took the loss, going the first 3.2 innings with two strikeouts. Colton Peters went the final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts.

In the road loss to Morris, after the Rangers scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 7-1 lead, the Eagles flew out of the nest in their half of the frame with a sevenrun inning for the walkoff, come-from-behind victory.

In defeat, Lucas Younger was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for Roland.

Brant (1-2) suffered the loss, going sixplus innings with eight strikeouts. Avery Moya came in to pitch in the seventh inning and got two outs but gave up the game-winning single Morris designated hitter Braden Ramirez.

In the road loss to Gore, the Pirates used a four-run first inning, a single run in the second inning and a tworun third inning for a 7-0 lead. The Rangers scored six runs in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 7-6 after four innings, only to see the Pirates enjoy a six-run fifth inning to up their advantage to 11-6 after five innings. The Rangers scored five runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 13-11 but got no closer.

In defeat, Foster was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, Derrick Allen was 2-for-3with two RBIs and two runs scored and Peters doubled with two RBIs and a run scored for Roland.

Burris took the loss, going the first 4.2 innings with a strikeout. Moya went the final 1.1 innings.
