Muldrow softball team goes 2-3 last week

The Muldrow Lady Bulldogs went 2-3 last week on the diamond.

The week started with a pair of wins — beating Gore 9-1 at home April 7 and getting a 13-6 road win over Vian on April 8 at Vian’s Armstrong Park. However, the week ended on a down note as the Lady Bulldogs lost all three games they played in the Checotah Festival on Thursday — losing 7-6 to the host Lady Wildcats, 9-8 to Oktaha in eight innings and 5-0 to Eufaula.

In the win over Gore, the Lady Bulldogs (5-8) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after an inning, which became a 4-0 advantage after two innings. After the Lady Pirates cut their deficit to 4-1 in the fourth inning, the Lady Bulldogs put the game into run-rule status with a five-run fourth inning.

For the game, Amaya Duran was 3-for-3 with two doubles, her first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the opening inning, five runs batted in and two runs scored, Riah Keenan doubled with an RBI and a run scored, Reagan Newbern doubled and Danica Tune tripled with an RBI and a run scored for Muldrow.

Jaydin Dean (5-8) got the win as tossed a three-hitter and recorded four strikeouts.

In the victory over Vian, the Lady Bulldogs scored three runs in the first inning, twice in the second inning and once in the third inning for a 6-0 lead. The Lady Wolverines cut their deficit to 6-2 with a two-run third inning but got no closer.

For the game, Tune was 4-for-4 with a triple, a run batted in and a run scored, Amaya Duran was 3-for-4 with a double and two home runs — her second and third homers of the season — to go with five RBIs, Amarie Duran was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Kaydence Young was 2-for-3 with a double, her second homer of the season, three runs scored and two RBIs and Riah Keenan was 2-for-4 with a run scored for Muldrow. Dean got the win.

In the loss to Checotah, the Lady Wildcats rallied from a 1-0 firstinning deficit with a pair of two-run innings in the first and the fourth inning for a 4-1 lead. After the Lady Bulldogs cut their deficit to 4-3 in the fourth inning, the Lady ’Cats responded in the home half of the frame with a three-spot to up their advantage to 7-3 after four innings. The Lady Bulldogs scored once in the fifth inning and twice in the sixth inning cut the deficit to 7-6 but got no closer.

In defeat, Amarie Duran was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, Young doubled and Tune tripled and scored once for Muldrow. Dean took the loss.

In the loss to Oktaha, the Lady Bulldogs tied the game at 8-all with a three-run fifth inning, only to see the Lady Tigers walk it off in the bottom of the eighth inning.

In defeat, Newbern was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Tune hit her first homer of the season, a threerun shot in the third inning. Dean suffered the loss.

In the loss to Eufaula, the Lady Bulldogs were five-hit by Lady Ironhead pitcher Makayla Harjo.

The Lady Ironheads scored three runs in the first inning and twice in the third inning.

In defeat, Amarie Duran was 3-for-3 with a double, while Amaya Duran and Eve Keenan each singled. Dean took the loss.

In the loss to Panama, after the Lady Bulldogs broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fourth inning, the Lady Razorbacks answered with four runs in their half of the frame for a 4-1 lead after four innings. Panama got an insurance run in the sixth inning.

In defeat, Dean was 2-for-3, Amaya Duran was 2-for-3 and Young and Riah Keenan each doubled for Muldrow. Dean suffered the loss.

On Friday, the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) sent the Lady Bulldogs to Sequoyah-Tahlequah along with Locust Grove. The Class 5A District Tournament will take place April 2426.
