Muldrow Bulldogs finish third in Central Tiger Shootout
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

The Muldrow Bulldogs ended a week on a high note that started out rough.

The Bulldogs won the third-place game 10-2 in five innings over the archrival Roland Rangers on Saturday afternoon at the Central Tiger Shootout.

The ’Dogs actually lost their openinground game 13-12 to the Checotah junior varsity — who was replacing the Keys Cougars, who could not play in the tournament due to needing to make up a District 3A-7 game with Sequoyah-Tahlequah on Thursday. However, since the Checotah JV could not come back on Saturday due to the school’s prom, they allowed the Bulldogs to advance to the winner’sbracket semifinals on Friday, where they lost 9-6.

The week started with a pair of District 4A-8 road losses to the Idabel Warriors by scores of 9-3 and 15-4 in six innings on April 8.

In the Central Tiger Shootout third-place game, the ’Dogs (5-16), who trailed 1-0 in the second inning, scored six runs in their half of the frame for a 6-1 lead after two innings, which became an 8-2 advantage after three innings. A two-run fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Wyatt Prewett was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in, Hayden McKinster was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Jonah Claborn doubled for Muldrow.

Wyatt Prewett (1-3) got his first win of the season, going the first three innings with two strikeouts. Jack Rhodes went the final two innings with a strikeout.

In the Central Tiger Shootout championship semifinals, the Wolverines broke a 5-all tie with a pair of runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-5 lead. After the Bulldogs cut their deficit to 7-6 in the sixth inning, the Wolverines answered with two more runs in the home half of the frame to seal the deal.

In defeat., Prewett was 2-for-4, Claborn was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Jackson Phillips was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Jace Prewett was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, Rhodes was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Gabe Miller doubled for Muldrow.

McKinster (1-4) suffered the loss, going 5.1 innings with five strikeouts. Rhodes got the final two outs.

In the Central Tiger Shootout openinground game, the Wildcats snatched away the win from the jaws of defeat by scoring four runs in the seventh inning to get the come-from-behind win. In defeat, Rhodes doubled, while Brody Israel and Tripp Rozell each singled.

Israel (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season, despite five strikeouts. In Game 1 against Idabel, the Warriors scored six runs in the opening inning for a 6-0 lead and were headed. The closest the ’Dogs (0-9 in district play) got was 6-2 in the second inning.

In defeat, Miller, Phillips, Rhodes, Rozell and Wyatt Prewett each singled for Muldrow’s five hits.

Jonah Claborn (1-5) took the loss, despite getting two strikeouts in 5.2 innings. McKinster got the final out. Of Idabel’s nine runs, only one of them was earned due to 10 Muldrow errors.

In the nightcap against Idabel, the Warriors scored once in the first inning, eight runs in the second inning and single runs in the third and fourth innings for an 11-0 lead. After the Bulldogs cut the deficit to 11-3 after five innings, a four-run sixth inning by Idabel put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Claborn was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while Phillips tripled with an RBI for Muldrow.

Jace Prewett (1-3) suffered the loss, going three innings with two strikeouts. McKinster pitched the fourth inning and got two strikeouts, then Rhodes went the final two innings with two strikeouts.
