Central softball team beats Vian, loses to Heavener, Warner twice

The Central Lady Tigers went 1-3 last week, with the lone win a 9-5 victory over Vian on March 7 at Vian’s Armstrong Park to get the week started.

However, the week ended with a 12-5 home loss to Heavener on Thursday and a pair of road losses on Friday to Warner by scores of 12-3 in five innings and 9-1 in six innings.

In the win over Vian, the Lady Tigers (5-8) scored once in the first inning and seven runs in the second inning for an 8-0 lead. The Lady Wolverines cut the deficit to 8-4 after three innings, but got no closer.

For the game, Charlie Petree was 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs batted in and a run scored, Brianna Taylor was 3-for-5 with a aouble, two runs scored and an RBI, Ayrland Jiles was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored, Keeley Poindexter was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Alyvia Warner was 2-for-3, Riley Rowland was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Allie Harris was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for Central. Rowland (5-5) got the win.

In the loss to Heavener, the Lady Wolves scored six runs in the first inning and four runs in the second inning for a 10-0 lead and were never headed.

In defeat, Taylor was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, Petree was 2-for-4, Rowland was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored, Alexandria Edwards was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Brenleigh Allen doubled with an RBI and a run scored and Jiles tripled with three RBIs and a run scored for Central.

Gretchen Reed (0-3) suffered the loss, although she got two strikeouts in seven innings.

In the first loss to Warner, after the Lady Tigers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, the Lady Eagles flew past them with a five-run second inning, a two-run third inning and a five-run fourth inning for a 12-3 lead to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Camryn Gilliam was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Jiles hit a solo home run, her third homer of the season. Reed took the loss.

In the second loss to Warner, the Lady Eagles scored once in the first inning and six runs in the second inning for a 7-0 lead to take control of the game.

In defeat, Poindexter was 2-for-3 for Central.

Reed suffered the loss.

On Friday, the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) sent the Lady Tigers to Wister along with Gore for a Class 3 A District Tournament, which will be April 24-26.
