Roland Rangers get first win of season in district split with Heavener
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

There is no longer a zero in the win column for the Roland Rangers baseball team.

After the Rangers suffered a 14-3, five-inning home defeat to District 3A-8 foe Heavener at home March 31, just 24 hours later the Rangers got their first win of the season and first district victory as they used a late rally to get a 13-6 district road win over the Wolves on April 1 in Heavener.

In the April 1 game at Heavener, trailing 6-2 after six innings, the Rangers (1-8 overall, 1-3 in district play) tied the game with a four-run seventh inning, then won it with a seven-run ninth inning to cap the come-from-behind victory.

For the game, Alex Brant was 6-for-6 with two runs scored and two runs batted in, Channing McKinney was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Colton Peters was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, Adrian Foster was 3-for-6 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored, Lucas Younger was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Derrick Allen was 2-for-4 with a run scored for Roland.

Brant (1-1) got his first win of the season in relief, going the final 1.1 innings with four strikeouts. Hunter Burris got the start and went the first five innings with seven Ks, then Avery Moya went the next 2.1 innings with three strikeouts.

In the home loss to Heavener, the Wolves scored three runs in the first inning, once in the second inning and three more runs in the third inning for a 7-0 lead. After the Rangers scored three runs in the third inning to cut their deficit to 7-3, the Wolves put the game into run-rule status with a three-run fourth inning and a four-run fifth inning.

Heavener pitcher Kason Free threw a twohitter with seven strikeouts.

In defeat, McKinney and Brant each singled with a run batted in and a run scored for Roland.

Peters (0-2) suffered the loss, despite fanning eight batters in four innings. Derrick Allen got the final three outs.

The rest of the week was a washout for the Rangers as their games in the first-ever Muldrow Baseball Festival on Thursday and Friday were rained out and will not be rescheduled.
