Muldrow Bulldogs beat archrival Rangers for seventh place in Roland Wood Bat Tournament
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

Last week could not have ended on a better note for the Muldrow Bulldogs as they knocked off their archrivals, the Roland Rangers, 3-2 to win the seventhplace game on Saturday at the Roland Wood Bat Tournament.

The Bulldogs lost both of their pool-play games on Friday, losing 4-3 to Hackett, Ark., and 2-1 to Central.

The week started with an 8-2 District 4A-8 road game loss to Stigler on March 24, then the Panthers got the district sweep of the ’Dogs with a 10-3 victory on March 25 in Muldrow.

In the seventh-place game, the Bulldogs (410) broke a 1-all tie with a two-run fifth inning for a 3-1 lead. The Rangers scored once in the sixth inning to cut it to 3-2 but got no closer.

For the game, Gabe Miller was 3-for-3 with a run scored, while Jackson Phillips doubled for Muldrow.

Brody Israel (1-0) got his first win of the season, going the first five innings with six strikeouts. Jonah Claborn got his second save of the season, pitching the sixth and final inning with two strikeouts.

In Friday’s loss to Central, the Tigers scored twice in the opening inning for a 2-0, only to see the Bulldogs cut the deficit in half in the home half of the frame on Jace Prewett’s RBI single, scoring Wyatt Prewett, to cut the deficit to 2-1 after an inning.

From there, it was a pitcher’s dual between Central’s Kiefer Bailey and Muldrow’s Prewett duo.

Bailey got the win as he went all five innings with nine strikeouts.

Wyatt Prewett (0-3) took the loss, going the first two innings with four strikeouts. Jace Prewett went the final three innings with six Ks.

In Friday’s loss to Hackett, the Hornets rallied for the come-frombehind victory with a three-run fifth inning.

In defeat, Claborn was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Muldrow.

Hayden McKinster (12) was the hard-luck loser, despite fanning five batters in 4.1 innings. Jace Prewett got the final out.

In the home district loss to Stigler, the Panthers scored twice in the first inning and once in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs (0-5 in district play) scored once in the third inning to cut their deficit to 3-1 but did not get any closer as a three-run fourth inning for Stigler put the Panthers on top 6-1 after four innings.

In defeat, Miller was 2-for-4 with a run scored for the ’Dogs.

Claborn (1-3) suffered the loss, despite striking out five batters in five innings. McKinster went the final two innings with two strikeouts.

In the road district loss to Stigler, the Panthers broke a scoreless tie with a three-run third inning. After the Bulldogs cut their deficit to 3-1 in the fourth inning, the Panthers responded with a four-run fourth inning to take a 7-1 lead after four innings.

In defeat, Wyatt Prewett was 2-for-3, while Claborn singled for Muldrow’s three hits.

Jace Prewett (1-2) suffered the loss, despite striking out seven batters in six innings. Five of Stigler’s eight runs were unearned due to five Muldrow errors.
