The Sequoyah County Domestic Violence Response/Sexual Assault Response Team (CCR/SART) is hosting a Glow Stick Walk to shine a light on the horrific crime of sexual violence. The event will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Monday, April 14, at the Muldrow Park, located on W. Shawntel Smith Blvd.

Participants are asked to put on their walking shoes, dress comfy (teal is the awareness color, but any color is ok), bring their friends and family, and come join the Team for a walk around the beautiful Muldrow Park as a part of their Sexual Assault/ Violence Awareness Month campaign.

Every 68 seconds an American is sexually assaulted and every nine minutes, that victim is a child. 80% of the women will be sexually assaulted by the time they are 25. Meanwhile, only a fraction of cases are ever reported and of that a smaller fraction of perpetrators will end up in prison.

There will be posters to encourage people to inquire about what the Response Team is doing, or you can design and bring your own. The reason for the walk is to start conversations and bring awareness to the plight of victims/survivors of sexual assault.

Glow sticks and water will be provided for the walk.
