Muldrow Bulldogs beat Fort Gibson after suffering district losses to Hilldale
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

The Muldrow Bulldogs entered Spring Break Week on a high note with a 10-2 home win over the Fort Gibson Tigers on Thursday evening after suffering back-to-back District 4A-8 losses to the Hilldale Hornets — losing 17-0 on March 10 at Hilldale High School in Muskogee and falling 22-4 on March 11 at home.

Friday’s road game at Muskogee was canceled due to weather conditions, and first-year Muldrow coach John Rozell said it is doubtful the game will be made up.

In the win over Fort Gibson, after the Tigers scored once in the top of the first inning for a 1-0 lead, the Bulldogs (2-5) scored twice in their half of the frame, once in the second inning, six runs in the third inning and another single run in the fourth inning for a 10-1 lead to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Gabe Miller doubled and scored twice, while Jonah Claborn tripled with three runs batted in for the ’Dogs.

Claborn (1-1) got his first win of the season, striking out nine Tigers in five innings and throwing a two-hitter.

In the first loss to Hilldale, the Bulldogs (0-3 in district play) were three-hit by Hilldale pitcher Chad Parks, who struck out 10 Bulldogs.

In defeat, Miller, Jackson Phillips and Wyatt Prewett each singled for the ’Dogs.

Hayden McKinster (1-1) suffered the loss, lasting only an inning with three strikeouts. Brody Israel went the next 1.2 innings with two strikeouts, then Miller went the final 1.1 innings.

In the second loss to Hilldale, the Hornets stung the ’Dogs, who scored three runs in the first inning to knot the game at 3-all, with a seven-run second inning to take a 10-3 lead. An eight-run sixth inning put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Miller doubled, while Prewett and Jack Rhodes each singled for the ’Dogs.

Prewett (0-2) suffered the loss, going the first 2.1 innings. Claborn went the final 3.2 innings with three Ks.
