Former Roland baseball pitcher off to good start with Hogs
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor,

Former Roland Rangers baseball pitcher Carson Wiggins is off to a good start in his freshman season with the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Wiggins has pitched in five games as a reliever, one appearance apiece against Washington State on Feb. 15, against Michigan on Feb. 23, against Grambling on Feb. 25, against North Carolina-Charlotte and this past Sunday against Portland.

Against Washington State, Wiggins pitched the final inning to record his first-ever collegiate save with a strikeout.

Against Michigan, Wiggins gave up a hit and a run, while he pitched an inning against Grambling with a strikeout.

Against UNCCharlotte, Wiggins got his second save as he pitched the final inning with two Ks.

The third-ranked Hogs (15-1), who completed a midweek twogame sweep of Louisiana-Monroe by winning the suspended game 14-1 in seven innings that started March 4 and 15-3 in seven innings last Wednesday, took all three games of this past weekend’s series from the Pilots of the West Coast Conference by scores of 20-3 in seven innings on Friday, 10-0 in seven innings on Saturday and 5-3 on Sunday.

In Sunday’s game, Wiggins pitched the final inning with a strikeout to record his third save of the season.

So far this season, Wiggins’ earned-run average is at 2.25 with five strikeouts.

The Razorbacks, who played Central Arkansas Tuesday night at Baum-Walker Stadium, will begin Southeastern Conference play next weekend at Mississippi, with single games at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday before returning home to meet Oral Roberts at 6 p.m. next Tuesday and at 3 p.m. next Wednesday.
