Roland Teams Sweep Checotah, Have Sallisaw Game Postponed
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

CHECOTAH — The Roland High School basketball teams swept a pair of NOAA Conference road games from the host Checotah squads on Jan. 28. The Runnin’ Rangers won 73-27 after the Lady Rangers prevailed 64-40. However, Friday night’s NOAA road games at Sallisaw were postponed due to the illness bug striking Roland as too many players were sick. The games have not been rescheduled as of press time, but they will be since they are conference contests.

In the girls’ win, the Lady Rangers (12-4 overall, 4-0 in NOAA Conference play) trailed 8-7 after a quarter but put away the game with a 25-11 second period to take a 32-19 halftime lead. A 20-7 third quarter upped Roland’s advantage to 52-26 going into the final period.

For the game, Molly Carver led Roland with a game-high 22 points, followed by Ryanne Nelke with 16 points, Haven Freeman with 11 points, Lilly Cole with eight points, Adrianna Moya with three points and Julianna Trujillo and Halle Freeman with two points apiece.

In the boys’ victory, the Runnin’ Rangers (151, 5-0) jumped out to a 13-8 lead after a quarter, which became a 30-16 halftime advantage and a 48-22 lead going into the final period.

For the game, Roland put a trio of players into double figures, led by Damonte Owens with 19 points, followed by Kade Shook with 13 points and Buck Triplett with 10 points. Mason Kemp scored nine points, followed by Raesean Perryman with eight points, Kayden Hartt with six points, Paul Johnson with four points and Cason Perryman and London Fowler with two points apiece.
