Gans basketball teams suffer losses to Midway, Porum
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

It was a rough week for the Gans High School basketball teams on the hardwood last week as both teams dropped road games to Midway on Jan. 27 and home Riverside Conference games to Porum on Friday night at Bryant “Big Country” Reeves Fieldhouse.

On Jan. 27 at Midway High School at Council Hill, the Lady Grizzlies lost 49-24 to the Lady Chargers, while the Grizzlies fell 60-37 to the Chargers.

On Friday night against Porum, the Lady Grizzlies fell 53-20 to the Lady Panthers, then the Grizzlies lost 53-10 to the Panthers.

The Riverside Conference home games on Jan. 28 against Gore were postponed due to illness issues for the Gans squads. The games have been rescheduled for 6 and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant “Big Country” Reeves Fieldhouse.

In the girls’ loss to Porum, the Lady Panthers, who led 16-14 after a quarter, put away the game with a 14-2 second period to take a 30-16 lead at halftime en route to a 44-18 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

In defeat, Sophie Pulice led the Lady Grizzlies (3-15 overall, 1-7 in Riverside Conference play) with 11 points, followed by MaKinzie Kimble with five points and K’Cee Osborn and Skylyn Bird with two points apiece.

In the boys’ loss to Porum, the Panthers led 10-0 after a quarter, 23-3 at halftime and 39-8 after three periods.

In defeat, Lucas Flute scored three points to lead the Grizzlies (017, 0-8), followed by Austin Hines, Gabriel Christopherson and Harley Strahm with two points each and Preston Moore with a free throw.

There was no more information reported on the Midway games by press time.

On Friday, the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) handed out the teams’ district assignments, which saw both teams sent with Porum to Weleetka for the Class A District Tournament, set for Feb. 14-15.
