Roland basketball teams sweep Stilwell, Poteau last week

The Roland High School basketball teams went undefeated last week as they swept two NOAA Conference doubleheaders.

The Runnin’ Rangers defeated the host Stilwell Indians 57-46 on Dec. 14, then picked up a home conference victory with a 76-41 rout of the Poteau Pirates on Friday night at the Ranger Dome.

The Lady Rangers handled both the Lady Indians — winning 5326 on Dec. 14 in Stilwell — and the Lady Pirates 70-26 Friday night at the Ranger Dome.

In the boys’ win over Stilwell, the Runnin’ Rangers (11-1 overall, 4-0 in NOAA Conference play) rallied from a 23-22 halftime deficit with a 13-9 third quarter to take the lead for good at 35-32, then used a 2214 final period to complete the come-frombehind victory.

For the game, Damonte Owens led all scorers with a gamehigh 20 points to lead Roland, followed by Landon Fowler with 15 points, Mason Kemp with 11 points, Buck Triplett with nine points and Raesean Perryman with two points.

In the boys’ victory over Poteau, the Runnin’ Rangers led 15-10 after a period, but they put away the game with an 18-7 second quarter to up the advantage to 33-17 at halftime.

For the game, Owens scored a game-high 24 points to lead Roland, followed by Kemp with 12 points, Fowler with 10 points, Kade Shook with seven points, Kayden Hartt with six points, Paul Johnson with five points, Perryman with four points, Triplett with three points and Nate Criswell and Josh Bower with two points apiece.

In the girls’ win over Stilwell, the Lady Rangers (9-3 overall, 4-0 in NOAA Conference play) took control of the game early, racing out to a 14-5 lead after one quarter. Roland put away the game with an 18-3 second quarter and a 19-5 third period to increase its advantage to 51-13 entering the fourth quarter.

For the game, Ryanne Nelke scored a gamehigh 18 points and Molly Carver added 10 points to lead Roland, followed by Halle Freeman with nine points, Haven Freeman with eight points, Lilly Cole with six points and Julianna Trujillo with two points.

In the girls’ victory over Poteau, the Lady Pirates put away the game early, outscoring the Lady Pirates 25-9 in the first quarter and never looking back from there.

For the game, Nelke led all scorers with a game-high 22 points, followed by Haven Freeman with 15 points, Halle Freeman with 14 points, Cole and Trujillo with six points each, Danika Sevenstar with five points and Carver with two points.

The Roland basketball teams will be in the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Tournament from Thursday through Saturday, with each team playing in pool play games.

The Runnin’ Rangers will play Fayetteville (Ark.) Christians at 6 p.m. Thursday at the NEO Student Activity Center, will face Miami at 6 p.m. Friday at the NEO Gym and will meet Claremore at 6 p.m. Saturday at the NEO Gym.

The Lady Rangers will meet Hillcrest at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, will play Claremore at 4:30 p.m. Friday and will face Aurora, Mo., at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, with all games at the NEO Student Activity Center.
