Funeral services for J.R. Wells, 86, of Roland, were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Muldrow. Burial followed at Dora Cemetery under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
Mr. Wells was born on May 24, 1938, in Liberty, to Cora Bell (Romines) Wells and James Riley Wells Sr. He passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, in Sallisaw.
He was the former owner and operator of J.R.’s Better Roofing and Concrete and drove a school bus for 33 years at Liberty School. He enjoyed working on jet engines during the short stint he did in the Air Force.
Survivors are two daughters, Shannon Wells and husband Jason Maupin of Muldrow and Crystal Wilson of Sallisaw; eight grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren; one sister, Sharon Walker of Roland; two brothers, Bob Wells and Pat, and Amon Wells, all of Roland; and several other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents; one sister, Melba Jean Burton; and two sisters-in-law, Joy Wells and Arletta Wells.
Pallbearers were Jeffrey Wells, Spencer Wells, Branson Wells, Jaxon Wells, Weston Wilson and Wyatt Wilson.
