Patriot’s Pen, Voice of Democracy contests open to local students

The Muldrow VFW and VFW Auxiliary is sponsoring the Patriot’s Pen essay contest for students in grades sixth through eighth. The theme for this year is, “My Voice in America’s Democracy.”

The essay contest is open to students who attend public school, are home schooled, or attend private or on-line school in these grade levels.

Entry forms are available at Gans Elementary, Liberty Elementary, Muldrow and Roland Middle Schools, Muldrow Public Library, and VFW Post #8384 at Muldrow.

The VFW and VFW Auxiliary are also sponsoring a speech contest for students in grades ninth through 12th.

This is open to students in public schools, home schooled, private or on-line schools. This year’s theme is “Is America Today Our Forefathers Vision.” Entry forms are available at Gans, Muldrow and Roland High Schools, Muldrow Public Library, and the VFW Post 8384 at Muldrow.

Prizes will be awarded for first through third places in both scholarship contests at local, district and state levels. The number of local entries received will determine the number forwarded to district competition. The winners at the district level will go on to compete at the state level. National level grand prize for Patriot’s Pen is $15,000 and the Voice of Democracy is $30,000.

All entries are due on Oct. 31, and will be picked up at the local schools, Muldrow Public Library or VFW Post 8384, no later than 6 p.m. on that day.

For additional information, contact Harold Lasiter, VFW 8384 Quartermaster, at 479926-0673 or Jackie Plank, VFW Auxiliary 8384 Jr. Vice President, at 479-883-5661.
