Softball season ends for Roland Lady Rangers
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

The Roland Lady Rangers saw their 2024 fast-pitch softball season come to an end on their home field Thursday afternoon when they lost 7-3 to the Sperry Lady Pirates in the Class 3A Regional Tournament loser’s-bracket final.

On opening day of the regional tournament on Wednesday, the Lady Rangers routed Hugo 16-0 in the opening round but lost a heartbreaking 9-8 winner’sbracket final to Keys.

To end the regular season, the Lady Rangers suffered a 12-4 loss at Stilwell on Sept. 30 and a 15-1 home loss to Sequoyah-Tahlequah on Oct. 1.

In the season-ending loss to Sperry, the Lady Rangers, who ended the season at 15-15, scored twice in the first inning on an error and an RBI double by Jordyn Bean for a 2-0 lead, then made it 3-0 in the second inning on an RBI double by Paisley Davis.

However, the Lady Pirates, who ended up winning the Class 3A Regional Tournament with back-to-back wins over Keys in the championship round, scored twice in the second inning and once in the third inning to tie the game, then took the lead for good with a threerun fourth inning and a single run in the sixth inning.

In defeat, Davis was 2-for-4 with an RBI double, while Jordyn Bean hit an RBI double for Roland.

McKinna Cooper (13-15) took the loss, despite two strikeouts in six innings.

In the regional opening- round rout of Hugo, Cooper threw a five-inning no-hitter with five strikeouts.

The Lady Rangers scored in every inning in which they batted, scoring once in the first inning, five runs in the second inning and once in the third inning for a 7-0 lead after three innings. A nine-run fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Jordyn Bean was 3-for-3 with a double, five runs batted in and a run scored, Lilly Cole was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs, Adriana Moya was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, Davis was 2-for-3 with a threerun, inside-the-park home run, three RBIs and three runs scored and Addyson Clark was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI for Roland.

In the regional-tournament winner’s-bracket final loss to Keys, Keys catcher Payton Zodrow hit a two-out, walk-off RBI double in the seventh inning to break a 8-all tie to put the Lady Cougars into Thursday’s regional title game.

The Lady Rangers, who trailed 7-0 after three innings, started having their bats come alive in the fourth inning as an RBI double by Clark, an RBI single by Jaydance Bean, a Keys error and a sacrifice fly by Cooper produced four Roland runs, and cut the Keys lead to 7-4 in the fourth inning.

A wild pitch and an RBI single by Kyleigh Knapp cut the Roland deficit to 8-6 in the sixth inning.

With two outs in the seventh inning, with the Lady Rangers being the visiting team, Davis drew a walk, and Clark hit a two-run homer over the right centerfield fence to tie the game at 8-all.

In defeat, Clark was 3-for-4 with a double, a two-run homer and three runs scored, while Jaydance Bean was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Cooper took the loss, despite getting two strikeouts in 6.2 innings.

In the regular-season loss to Stilwell, the Lady Indians broke a 3-all tie with a five-run second inning for an 8-3 lead after two innings. The Lady Rangers cut their deficit to 8-4 with a run in the fifth inning but got no closer as Stilwell’s four-run fifth inning put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Moya was 3-for-4 with a run scored for Roland.

Cooper suffered the loss, despite striking out four batters in 4.2 innings.

In Tuesday’s regularseason finale loss to Sequoyah-Tahlequah, the Lady Indians scored twice in the first inning, three runs in the second inning and five runs in the third inning for a 10-0 lead.

The lone run for the Lady Rangers scored in the third inning on a two-out, RBI double by Davis, scoring Laynie Roedenbeck, but that was as close as Roland got as a five-run fourth inning for Sequoyah-Tahlequah put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Davis hit an RBI double, while Moya, Clark and Roedenbeck all singled for Roland. Cooper took the loss.
