Sheriff’s Office issues scam alert
By AMIE CATO-REMER EDITOR

The Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Office reported last week that there have been reports of several residents receiving phone calls from an individual claiming to be Deputy Petree, with the sheriff ’s office.

Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane said the caller is telling people that they have outstanding warrants for failure to pay taxes.

“The phone number is coming up as our dispatch number, but it is definitely not coming from us,” Lane said. “This is a scam and is totally false.”

Lane went on to say that the Sheriff ’s Office does not call people about outstanding warrants.

“Please do not send money, and do not go meet these people,” Lane ended.
