Gans Lady Grizzlies see season come to a close
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

RED OAK — The 2024 fast-pitch softball season came to a close for the Gans Lady Grizzlies on Thursday, losing twice to Keota by scores of 14-2 and 10-2 in the Class A District Tournament to see their season end at 8-14.

The Lady Grizzlies had their game on Sept. 24 at Oaks canceled due to the softball playoffs.

In the first loss to Keota, after the Lady Grizzlies scored a run in the first inning for a 1-0 lead, the Lady Lions erupted for 10 runs in the first inning and a single run in the second inning for an 11-1 lead after two innings. A three-run third inning put the game into runrule status.

In defeat, Gabbie Price tripled and scored both Gans runs, while Maddie Freeman singled for the only hits for the Lady Grizzlies as Keota pitcher Jaycee Byrd threw a two-hitter with six strikeouts in three innings. Abigail Leach (3-7) took the loss.

In the season-ending loss to Keota, Byrd threw a five-inning three-hitter with five Ks.

After the Lady Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Lady Lions roared back with a pair of three-run innings in the first two innings for a 6-1 lead after two innings.

After Gans cut its deficit to 6-2 after three innings, the Lady Lions put the game into runrule status with a pair of two-run innings in the fourth and fifth innings.

In defeat, Price was 3-for-3 with two triples and two runs scored for Gans. Leach took the loss.
