Gans Lady Grizzlies defeat Cameron Arkoma before losing to Gore

Last week’s softball action started off great for the Gans Lady Grizzlies as they handled the Riverside Conference co-op Cameron-Arkoma team 12-4 on Sept. 17 in Cameron.

However, the week ended on a sour note as the Lady Grizzlies suffered a 17-1 home loss to Gore on Thursday.

In the road win over Cameron-Arkoma, the Lady Grizzlies (812) scored three runs in the first inning for a 3-0 lead. After the hosts scored twice in its half of the inning to cut the deficit to 3-2 after an inning, Gans put away the game with a seven-run second inning and single runs in the third and fifth innings for a 12-3 lead to put the contest into run-rule status.

For the game, Madi Pilkington was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a run batted in, Maddie Freeman was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored and Gabbie Price hit an insidethe- park home run and scored twice for Gans.

Freeman (5-7) got the win, fanning five batters in five innings.

In the home loss to Gore, Gore pitcher Cheyenne Davidson threw a three-inning two-hitter.

The Lady Pirates got all the run support Davidson needed with a six-run first-inning for a 6-0 lead. After scoring five runs in the second inning, Gore put the game into run-rule status with a six-run third inning.

In defeat, Price and Makinzie Kimble each singled for the only hits for the Lady Grizzlies.

Maddie Freeman suffered the loss The Class A playoffs will begin Thursday for the Lady Grizzlies as they will meet Keota at 9 a.m. Thursday in Red Oak, then meet the host Lady Eagles at 10:30 a.m. After Keota and Red Oak play at noon. The loser’s-bracket final will take place at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by the district title game at 3 p.m. The if-game will be at 4:30 p.m.
