Roland Lady Rangers get three wins on opening week of season
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

The Roland Lady Rangers went 3-2 to begin the 2024 fast-pitch softball season last week.

The Lady Rangers opened the week with a road district sweep over the Heavener Lady Wolves by scores of 12-3 and 12-2 on Aug. 13.

After losing 13-3 on Thursday afternoon in the home opener, the Lady Rangers split Friday’s games in the Muldrow Festival — blanking Central 4-0 but losing 8-5 to the host Lady Bulldogs.

Saturday’s action in the Muldrow Festival was rained out, and the games will not be rescheduled.

In Game 1 against Heavener, after taking a 1-0 lead in the opening inning, the Lady Rangers (2-0 overall, 2-0 in district play) put away the game with a six-run second inning for a 7-0 lead.

For the game, Ariana Acevedo was 4-for-4 with two doubles and four runs scored, Addyson Clark was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs batted in, Jordyn Bean was 2-for-5 with three three RBIs and a run scored, Jaydance Bean was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Kyleigh Knapp was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, Paisley Davis was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Lilly Cole doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Roland.

Knapp (1-0) got the win in relief, going the final four innings with four strikeouts. McKinna Cooper got the start and went the first two innings with three Ks.

In the nightcap in which Roland was home, the Lady Rangers basically copied what they did in the opener — put away the game early. Roland scored five runs in the first inning and three runs in the second inning for an 8-0 lead. A four-run third inning put the game into runrule status.

For the contest, Clark was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple, five RBIs and three runs scored, Jaydance Bean was 3-for-3 with with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Acevedo was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored, Jordyn Bean was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, Davis was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored and Cole doubled with an RBI for Roland.

Cooper got the win, going all four innings and throwing a one-hitter.

In Thursday’s loss to Eufaula, the Lady Ironheads rallied from a 3-2 third-inning deficit with a two-run fourth inning, a two-run sixth inning and a seven-run seventh inning.

In defeat, Clark was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while Knapp was 2-for-3 for the Lady Rangers, who dropped to 2-1 in district play. Cooper (11) took the loss, going all seven innings with two strikeouts.

In the victory over Central in the Muldrow Festival, the Lady Rangers scored once in the first inning, twice in the third inning and once in the fifth inning, which was the last inning played due to the time limit expiring.

For the game, Jordyn Bean was 2-for-2 with a run batted in, Adriana Moya doubled and scored twice and Clark tripled and scored twice for Roland.

Cooper got the win, throwing a five-inning three-hitter with a strikeout.

In the loss to Muldrow in the MUldrow Festival, the Lady Rangers cut their deficit to 4-3 in the third inning, but the Lady Bulldogs scored twice in both the third and fourth innings to take an 8-3 lead after four innings. Roland cut the Muldrow lead to 8-5 in the fifth inning, but the time limit was reached to end the contest.

In defeat, Acevedo and Clark each doubled and scored once, Moya tripled and scored twice and Jaydance Bean tripled and scored once for Roland.

Cooper (2-2) took the loss, going the first three innings with three strikeouts. Knapp went the final inning with a strikeout.
