Blackfox is named new SRO for Roland Public Schools
Contracts renewed for 2024-25 school year

The Roland Board of Education met on August 12 for its regular monthly meeting where board members voted to approve employee contracts and other contracts for the 2024-25 school year.

The board members first voted to approve all regular and temporary contracts for all employees for the new school year; and a resignation was unanimously accepted from Gail Tabor.

The board members voted to go into an executive session to discuss the hiring of a cafeteria employee and paraprofessionals. Upon returning to open session, it was announced that Christi Wilson and Alexandra Osburn had been hired as paraprofessionals, and Rebecca Floyd as a cafeteria employee.

The board voted to approve the SRO (School Resource Officer) contract with the town of Roland to reflect the change in SRO’s. Austin Blackfox will replace Richard Seabolt for the 2024-25 school year, according to meeting minutes.

Superintendent Lori Wiggins was given the authority by the board to modify the 2024-25 school calendar, change and set school hours, assign students, and use school facilities to promote the safety and well-being of students and staff.

All financial matters were unanimously approved by the board members as well, including GeneralFundEncumbrances totaling $266,020.87; Building Fund, $99,937.62; Co-op Fund, $3,805.62; General Fund, $121,991.75; and General Fund payroll totaling $649,762.37.

The board also granted permission to the middle school to hold a Halloween dance as part of a fundraiser, with the date to be announced at a later time.

Also approved during the meeting for the 2024-25 school year were the following: •Contract with Boys & Girls Club of Sequoyah County

•Agreement with Biz Town/Junior Achievement of Oklahoma Inc.

•Mentor teaching committee

•Handbook changes for all buildings

•Federal program assurances/ LEA agreement •CLBCB–Armed school employees

• Co-op of the Alt. Ed. program with Moffett

•OK Dept. of Career & Tech Ed. contract for secondary career/Tech. Ed. program This news story is based on the unofficial minutes from the board meeting and could be in error if the minutes are changed prior to adoption.
