Teachers of the Year recognized, program director reemployed
By AMIE CATO-REMER EDITOR,

During Muldrow School Board’s January meeting

The Muldrow Board of Education convened on Jan. 8 for their regularly scheduled meeting with all board members present, where they recognized the school’s Teachers of the Year and reemployed their Federal Programs Director for another school year.

The board moved through the consent agenda items, unanimously approving the minutes of the Dec. 11, 2023 monthly meeting, the resignation of Cathy Daws, General Fund Encumbrances, General Fund Payroll, Financial Reports, and a list of fundraiser requests.

The meeting then shifted focus to recognizing outstanding teachers. Kristen London, Adam Pool and Debra McDonald were named Site Teachers of the Year for the 2023-24 school year, with Pool receiving the additional honor of being named the District Teacher of the Year.

Bill Sagely and Dylan Steiger presented plans for the “Courts for Christ” event scheduled for Feb. 7, at the Roger Sharp Activity Center. The Ministerial Alliance’s proposal was well-received, and the board expressed its support for the event.

During the Superintendent’s Report, Superintendent Clifta Fugett acknowledged School Board Recognition Month by presenting certificates to all board members. The report also covered the January School Calendar, midterm State Aid Allocation adjustments, and Checotah Tournament brackets.

The members then discussed a potential executive session but ultimately decided against it. Instead, they moved on to the crucial matter of Angela Williams’ reemployment as the Federal Programs Director for the 2024-25 school year, which was passed unanimously by the board.

Also approved during the meeting was:

• School personnel attendance at the Midwest Symposium for Leadership in Behavior Disorders Conference in Kansas City, Mo., from Feb. 29 to March 1.

• The proposed School Calendar for the 2024-25 school year.

• Fund transfers from the Football and High School Cheerleader accounts to the FFA account for banner printing.

No new business was introduced, and the meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m.

Board meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Administration/ Cafetorium Building – Boardroom on the High School Campus.

This news story is based on the unofficial minutes from the board meeting and could be in error if the minutes are changed prior to adoption.
