County school enrollment tops 7,600
By LYNN ADAMS SPECIAL TO THE REGISTER,

Now that Sequoyah County students are back in class following the recent fall break, a survey of all schools in the county shows 7,646 students are enrolled in the county’s 12 school districts.

This year’s total is up 27 students compared to last year’s 7,619 enrollment total.

While the overall number is up over last year, the growth comes with only a third of the county schools reporting gains from a year ago, led by Sallisaw, with a 100-student increase. The other three school districts reporting more students this year are Central, Moffett and Muldrow.

Among the schools with the biggest losses in enrollment from a year ago are Gore, Liberty and Vian.

• Sallisaw Public Schools reports 1,950 students enrolled, up 100 from last year’s 1,850.

• Muldrow has the second highest enrollment with 1,334 students, an increase of 47 from a year ago with 1,287.

• Roland’s 935 students rank the school district as the county’s third largest enrollment, but the total is down 10 from last year’s 945.

• Vian reports 814 students enrolled, which is 30 less than a year ago when the total was 844.

• Central is up 28 students from a year ago, with 521 enrolled this year compared to 493 last year.

• Gore reports 518 students enrolled, which is down 28 from last year’s 546. Gore’s largest senior class in the past 10 years graduated 48 last year, and this year’s incoming senior class has 23 students.

• Moffett is up 10 students from last year, with 378 enrolled this year compared to 368 a year ago.

• Brushy reports 367 students enrolled, 21 fewer than last year’s 388 enrollment.

• Liberty, with 338 students enrolled this year, is down 33 from a year ago when the school district had 371 students.

• Gans has 334 students currently enrolled, which is 15 less than a year ago when the total was 351.

• Belfonte is down 10 students from a year ago, with 80 enrolled this year compared to 90 last year.

• Marble City reports 77 students enrolled, nine fewer students than last year’s enrollment of 86.
