Arrest warrant issued for Morain

A Muldrow woman is facing a felony charge of child neglect after allegedly failing to protect a minor child from sexual abuse.

Elizabeth Morain, 30, was formally charged on August 2 in Sequoyah County District Court and a warrant was issued for her arrest the same day, according to court documents.

Corporal Nick Yoakum with the Muldrow Police Department reported on June 6 that he observed a child’s forensics interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Sallisaw, after it was alleged the child and one of the child’s siblings had been repeatedly molested.

As part of a safety plan, Morain was told not to leave the two children alone at any time with the individual who allegedly molested them.

During the interview, one of the children told interviewers that Morain had left the residence during nap time, leaving the alleged perpetrator in charge of the children. The child said Morain had reportedly walked in as one of the children was being inappropriately touched by the alleged perpetrator.

The child went on to say that Morain then took photos of the child who was allegedly touched and “got on to” the alleged perpetrator. It was noted that no police report was filed regarding the alleged incident and nothing was reported to Child Welfare.

The child went on to say the alleged perpetrator had touched them many times and when interviews were set up for both Morain and the alleged perpetrator, neither party showed due to their lawyer’s advice.

If found guilty of the charge, District Attorney Jack Thorp said Morain could face imprisonment in the custody of the Department of Corrections not exceeding life imprisonment, imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year, or by a fine of not less than $500 nor more than $5,000, or both fine and imprisonment.
