Muldrow Lady Bulldogs beat Sallisaw, Checotah after losing to Poteau
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor

The Muldrow Lady Bulldogs ended their home regular season on a high note with a 5-3 District 4A-6 victory over the Sallisaw Lady Diamonds, who had beaten them one week earlier, on Sept. 24 to celebrate Senior Night, then rallied to defeat Checotah 6-2 on Thursday.

However, the other game did not go the way of the Lady Bulldogs as they lost a 12-0 road district game at Poteau on Sept. 23.

In the win over Sallisaw, trailing 1-0 in the opening inning, the Lady Bulldogs (10-17 overall, 3-9 in district play) took the lead for good on an RBI single by Kaydence Young and a Sallisaw error for a 2-1 lead.

Danica Tune, one of four seniors — along with senior players Eve and Raya Keenan and manager Emmalee Short — honored after the game on Senior Night, hit a grounder on which an error was made allowed Kynlee Thomas to score Muldrow’s third run for a 3-1 lead after two innings.

An RBI triple by Young and a passed ball produced two more runs for Muldrow in the fifth inning to increase the advantage to 5-1 after five innings.

For the game, Young was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs batted in and a run scored for Muldrow. Jaydin Dean (7-8) got the win, striking out seven batters and throwing a four-hitter.

In the district victory over Checotah, the Lady Bulldogs used a six-run, sixth-inning rally to get the come-from-behind win.

For the game, Tune doubled and scored once, Amarie Duran singled with two runs batted in and Dean and Young each singled for Muldrow.

Young (3-9) got the win, striking out seven batters in seven innings.

In the loss to Poteau, Poteau pitcher Emma Hackler threw a five-inning no-hitter with five strikeouts.

Hackler got all the run support needed with a three-run first inning, then the Lady Pirates scored four runs in the second inning and twice in the third inning for a 10-0 lead. A threerun fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

Young took the loss as she went the first two innings with a strikeout for the Lady Bulldogs. Jaydin Dean went the final two innings.

The Lady Bulldogs will begin the postseason today in the Class 4A Regional Tournament at Miami, Okla. The Lady Bulldogs will meet the Oologah Lady Mustangs at 2 this afternoon, with the winner playing the host Lady Wardogs at 4 p.m. and the Muldrow-Oologah loser then playing Miami at 6 tonight.
