Veterans from the Sallisaw Veterans Home spent a recent day visiting the U.S. Marshals Museum in Fort Smith, giving them a chance to get out, spend time together, and enjoy something different.
The day started with veterans traveling as a group, talking during the ride and looking forward to the outing. Once they arrived at the museum, veterans took their time walking through the exhibits, reading displays and watching videos. Conversations happened throughout the visit as veterans pointed things out to one another and shared thoughts about what they were seeing.
Many veterans spent time talking about service, history and experiences as they moved through the museum. The visit gave everyone a chance to slow down, walk at their own pace and enjoy the time together. Being out of the home and in a new setting gave them something new to experience and talk about.
Staff from the Sallisaw Veterans Home were with the group throughout the day, helping with transportation, making sure everyone was comfortable, and able to enjoy the visit. Their presence allowed veterans to focus on the outing and spend the day with each other.
After returning to the home, the trip continued to be a topic of conversation. Veterans talked about what they saw, what stood out to them, and what they enjoyed most about the day. Outings like this give veterans shared experiences and memories that carry on well after the trip ends.
The Sallisaw Veterans Home appreciates opportunities like this that allow veterans to get out, stay connected, and enjoy time together as a group.
