The Sequoyah County Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at their museum, located at 200 East Creek Street in Sallisaw.

The program will be “show and tell.” Members and guests are asked to bring keepsakes or antiques that has a personal or historical significance to “show and tell” about.

“Show and tell” has been the topic of the first meeting of the Sequoyah County Historical Society for several years and it can be one of the most interesting. Some of the objects shown at the meeting are not only keepsakes but they disclose unknown pieces of the history of Sequoyah County.

Joe Wilson, for many years, was one of the most outstanding and well-respected U.S. Marshals of the Sallisaw and eastern Oklahoma area.

In the above photo, the late daughter of Marshal Wilson shows a part of his Indian collection. She also told that her father was not only a U.S. Marshal but how he had collected and preserved objects of the Native Americans, especially the Cherokees.

The picture, taken in 1998 and many others, are now a part of the records of the Sequoyah County Historical Society. The Society also has a collection of objects and records of Marshal Wilson on display.
