Gans Lady Grizzlies split with Central, beat Kinta

The Gans Lady Grizzlies went 2-1 last week, splitting games at Central on March 30, then ending the week with a home win over Kinta.

The Lady Grizzlies beat the Central junior varsity 7-2 in the night after the Lady Tigers beat them 11-3 in five innings.

The Lady Grizzlies routed the Lady Eagles 10-0 in four innings.

Last Thursday’s home game against Gore was canceled.

In the win over the Central JV, the Lady Grizzlies (4-8) took a 3-0 lead in the opening inning before the Lady Tigers cut their deficit to 3-2 after an inning. However, the Lady Grizzlies scored once in the second inning and three runs in the third inning to preserve the win.

For the game, Abigail Leach was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI for Gans.

Destiny Phillips (12) got her first win of the season, going the first two innings. Nora Barnes went the rest of the way. The duo combined to three-hit the Lady Tigers.

In the loss to the Central varsity, the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 6-0 lead after an inning, then single runs in the fourth and fifth innings put the game into runrule status.

In defeat, Barnes was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Brighton Dorsey doubled for the Lady Grizzlies (3-8). Yesenia Gaona (2-5) took the loss.

In the victory over Kinta, the pitching duo of Gaona and Avigail Green combined to twohit the Lady Eagles. Gaona went the first 2.2 innings, then Green went the final 1.1 innings.

Meanwhile, the Lady Grizzlies, winners of four of their last five games, jumped out to a 3-0 lead after an inning. A five-run second inning and a two-run fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Barnes was 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored, Makenzy Hunter was 2-for-2 with a triple, three runs scored and two runs batted in, Taylor Barger was 2-for-2 with a two-run, insidethe park home run, her first homer of the season, with four RBIs and Leach doubled with an RBI for Gans.
