It was a rough week for the Roland Rangers baseball team last week as they lost all five games played, including all three of which were played in their own Roland Wood Bat Tournament.
After losing both District 3A-8 games to Checotah — losing 15-1 on March 23 at home and falling 5-0 on March 24 at Checotah — the Rangers lost all three games in their own wood bat tournament, losing 9-3 to Stilwell and 3-1 to Keys last Thursday before losing 13-2 to Central last Saturday.
In the first loss to Checotah, the Wildcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead after an inning to take control of the game.
Checotah’s pitching duo of Mason Rainbolt and Ty Guthrie combined to one-hit the Rangers (2-7 overall, 2-4 in district play), who only mustered a Brett Mauldin single for offense.
Alex Brant (1-2) took the loss, going the first five innings with four strikeouts. Ricky Watts went the final two innings with a strikeout.
In the second loss to Checotah, Laken Honeycutt (0-2) took the loss, despite throwing a six-inning no-hitter in a losing effort as he struck out five batters.
The Wildcats broke a scoreless tie with a fiverun third inning.
In defeat, Honeycutt and Avery Moya each singled for the only hits for Roland.
In the tournament loss to Stilwell, the Indians broke a 1-all tie with a four-run third inning. After the Rangers cut their deficit to 5-3 in the third inning, the Indians scored four runs in the fourth inning to put away the game.
In defeat, Brant doubled with two runs batted in, Moya singled and scored twice and Carson Manchester singled with an RBI for Roland.
Hunter Burris (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season, getting two strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Manchester went the rest of the way with two Ks.
In the tournament loss to Keys, the Cougars scored three runs in the second inning for a 3-0 lead. The Rangers cut their deficit to 3-1 in the fourth inning but got no closer.
In defeat, Honeycutt was 2-for-3 with a double for Roland.
Manchester (0-1) suffered his first defeat of the spring as he only lasted 1.1 innings. Moya went the final 3.2 innings with seven strikeouts.
In the tournament loss to Central, the Tigers scored eight runs in the first inning and twice in the second inning for a 10-0 lead. A three-run third inning put the game into runrule status.
In defeat, Channing McKinney’s single was the only hit the Rangers could muster off Central’s duo of Kiefer Bailey and Tite Cox.
Easton Rainwater (0-1) suffered the loss in defeat, going two innings. Watts got the start but did not record an out in the opening inning. Malden went the final 1.2 innings.
