Muldrow VFW Auxiliary invites students to showcase patriotic art in contests

The Muldrow VFW Auxiliary #8384 is calling all young artists to participate in two exciting patriotic art contests, with submissions due on March 31.

Entries can be submitted by 10 a.m. at the school office, noon at the Muldrow Public Library, or at the Muldrow VFW Post 8384 on Wilson Rock Road.

2-D and 3-D Patriotic Art Contest

High school students in grades 9-12—public, private, online, or homeschooled—are invited to enter the 2-D or 3-D patriotic art contest.

For 2-D art, submissions may include watercolor, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen and ink, oil, marker, or other media.

Canvas entries must be on stretcher frames or canvas boards and not framed; other entries can be matted but without colored mats. Students may submit an explanation of their artwork, up to 250 words.

Entries featuring the American Flag must adhere to the Federal Flag Code. Digital art and photography are not accepted.

National-level prizes range from $15,000 for first place to $500 for 8th–19th place, with additional awards available at local and state levels.

3-D entries must be three-dimensional, no larger than 18 inches in any direction and under five pounds.

Accepted materials include paper, papermâché, pottery, sculpture, fabric, wood, and metalwork, while digital art, photography, weapons, 3-D printer creations, jewelry, and similar items are not allowed.

Explanations of entries are limited to 250 words. National awards range from $2,500 for first place to $500 for fourth place, with local and state awards also available.

All entries must be completed by the student and include a parent or guardian’s signature to be eligible.

Illustrating America Students in grades K-8 can participate in the “Illustrating America” contest, divided into three age groups: K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. All submissions are twodimensional, unframed, and between 8”x10” and 18”x24”.

Mediums may include watercolor, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen and ink, oil, glitter, marker, or other materials. Local awards will be given to the top three winners in each age group, and first-place winners advance to the state competition.

National winners will receive gift cards of $100 for first place, $50 for second, and $25 for third in each category.

For entry forms or more information, students and parents can contact their child’s school art teacher, visit the Muldrow Public Library, or reach out to Jackie Plank at 479-8835661 or Tina Bates at 479-936-0280 with the Muldrow VFW Auxiliary 8384.
