Rep. Jim Olsen, R-Roland, has passed legislation expanding constitutional carry onto boats through the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
House Bill 2937 clarifies state law to allow the lawful carrying of firearms on vessels operating on public lakes and waterways in Oklahoma if the person carrying is otherwise permitted to carry a weapon.
“The Second Amendment does not stop at the shore- line,” Olsen said. “House Bill 2937 simply ensures that law-abiding Oklahomans do not lose their constitutional right to bear arms simply because they are enjoying time on one of our lakes or waterways. Their constitutional rights should be protected just as they are on land.”
HB2937 passed the House 80-12. It now moves to the Senate, where it is authored by Sen. Warren Hamilton, R-McCurtain, for further consideration. If passed into law, HB2937 would take effect Nov. 1, 2026.
Rep. Jim Olsen represents District 2 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, which includes portions of Sequoyah County.
