The Gans Lady Grizzlies slow-pitch softball team is showing signs of progressing throughout this season, which sees them entering Spring Break with a record of 0-4.
The Lady Grizzlies return six starters from last spring’s 4-17 squad.
Starters back for second-year coach Jacklyn Green are senior outfielder Makenzy Hunter (.444 hitting average last season), senior pitcher/ utility player Destiny Phillips (.425), senior pitcher/catcher Brighton Dorsey (.225), junior infielder Taylor Barger (.138), sophomore infielder Abigail Leach (.537) and sophomore pitcher/utility player Yasenia Gaona (.344).
Also back for the Lady Grizzlies are junior pitcher/infielder Nora Barnes (.333) and sophomore first baseman/ outfielder Skilynn Bird (.500).
Five freshman round out the squad — catcher/ utility player Audrie Moody, outfielders Kris-Lynn Martin, Kilynn Bird and Avigail Green and catcher/outfielder Bella Powers.
“We’re seeing a lot of growth early on in the season,” Green said. “Several players have stepped up at the plate, and we’re getting contributions throughout the line-up, which is encouraging. We’ve also had some solid defensive moments, and the team continues to compete no matter the situation. We’re gaining experience and focusing on building on the positives as we keep improving together.”
