Gans Lady Grizzlies beat Arkoma, Leflore, but fall to McCurtain; Grizzlies fall three times

The Gans Lady Grizzlies went 2-1 last week at Bryant “Big Country” Reeves Fieldhouse as they defeated the Arkoma Lady Mustangs 36-32 on Friday night after downing the Leflore Lady Savages 42-29 on Thursday night but losing 45-34 to the Mc-Curtain Lady Bulldogs on Jan. 13.

It was a rough home week for the Grizzlies as they lost all three games last week, falling 54-19 to Arkoma on Friday night, 60-54 to Leflore on Thursday night and 41-32 to McCurtain on Jan. 13.

In the girls’ win over Arkoma, the Lady Grizzlies (7-9) rallied from a 23-22 third-quarter deficit by outscoring the Lady Mustangs 14-9 in the final period to get the come-from-behind win.

For the game, Skilynn Bird scored 12 points and Nora Barnes added 10 points to lead Gans, followed by Valan Harper with eight points and Madi Pilkington with six points.

In the girls’ victory over Leflore, the Lady Grizzlies, who led 15-14 at halftime, outscored the Lady Savages 21-6 in the third quarter to take a 36-20 lead going into the final period.

For the game, Bird scored a game-high 20 points to lead Gans, followed by Barnes with 10 points, Harper and Brighton Dorsey with four points each and Pilkington and Abigail Leach with two points apiece.

In the girls’ loss to McCurtain, the Lady Bulldogs led 13-8 after a quarter, 25-17 at halftime and 38-25 after three periods.

In defeat, Bird scored a game-high 17 points and Barnes added 12 points to lead the Lady Grizzlies, while Harper added five points.

In the boys’ loss to Arkoma, the Mustangs game out of the gates early, jumping out to a 12-2 lead after a quarter en route to a 24-10 halftime advantage and a 42-17 lead after three periods.

In defeat, Bryce Stevens led the Grizzlies (2-12) with five points, followed by Aiden Garcia with four points and Austin Hines, Preston Moore, Jessie Phillips, Preston Bennett and Jaxon England with two points apiece.

In the boys’ loss to Leflore, trailing 13-12 after a period, the Savages doubled the Grizzlies 18-9 in the second quarter to take a 30-22 halftime lead. The Grizzlies outscored the Savages 32-30 in the second half, but their rally fell short.

In defeat, Hines scored 18 points and Stevens added 16 points to lead Gans, followed by Garcia with seven points, Moore with five points, Eli Blackmon with four points and Phillips and Bennett with two points apiece.

In the boys’ loss to McCurtain, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 15-2 lead after a quarter en route to a 26-12 halftime advantage and a 35-23 lead going into the final period.

In defeat, Stevens scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Grizzlies, followed by Blackmon with eight points, Moore with four points, Garcia with three points, Hines with two points and Phillips with a free throw.
