Administrative contracts, land purchase top Roland School Board meeting
By AMIE CATO-REMER EDITOR

The Roland Board of Education approved multiple administrative contracts, discussed ongoing bond projects and authorized the purchase of additional district property during its regular meeting on Jan. 12.

Following approval of the Dec. 8 meeting minutes, the board unanimously accepted the resignation of Kyara Bush.

The board entered executive session at 6:02 p.m. to discuss employment opportunities, as allowed under state law. No official action was taken during the closed session and the board returned to open session at 6:25 p.m.

In personnel action, the board tabled the hire of a paraprofessional.

Members then unanimously approved several administrative contracts, including Blake Rainwater as principal of Lower Elementary, Kelsey Stubbs as principal of Upper Elementary, Jeff Brant as principal of Middle School, Dara Tyler as principal of High School, and Daniel Richards as dean of students.

Board members also held a discussion regarding the district’s current bond. Policy updates were approved, including Child Identification, Location, Screening and Evaluation Notice to Parents (EHBC-R3), Extended School Year Services (EHBCA), and Extended School Year Program Eligibility Standards (EHBCA-R).

In financial matters, the board unanimously approved encumbrances, payrolls and reports for multiple funds, including general, building, bond, co-op and sinking funds. General fund purchase orders numbered 505–570 totaled $295,153.39, while general fund payroll encumbrances totaled $638,011.28.

Additional encumbrances were approved for building and co-op funds, along with monthly activity fund reports, claims, warrants and the treasurer’s report.

Under new business, the board also approved the purchase of 1.68 acres of land located within district boundaries for $35,000. The motion passed unanimously, with the exception of board president Kevin Flurry abstaining from the vote.

During her administrator’s report, Superintendent Lori Wiggins provided updates on ongoing and completed projects across the district.

She noted the baseball indoor addition is nearing completion, campus road repairs are underway and sidewalk repairs at the elementary site, along with handicap ramps and parking areas, have been completed.

Wiggins said upcoming projects will continue to enhance safety and convenience for students, staff and patrons. She also announced the district will host two basketball games for Central High School in the coming week, in addition to regularly scheduled games.

The meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m. following a unanimous vote.

This news story is based on the unofficial minutes from the board meeting and could be in error if the minutes are changed prior to adoption.
