Burlison new chair for commissioners

Sequoyah County Commissioners at their Monday weekly meeting elected District 2 Commissioner Beau Burlison to chair the county board for 2026.

District 1 Commissioner Ray Watts, who served as the board’s chair for 2025, was elected vice chair for 2026.

Burlison, who also served as chairman during 2023, has served as county commissioner since January 2021.

Watts has served as a county commissioner for the past 15 years, and District 3 Commissioner Jim Rogers, who served as chair for 2024, has also been a commissioner for the past 15 years.

In other business last Monday, the commissioners convened in executive session to interview candidates for the Sequoyah County Emergency Management director. Candidates for the position are Michael Dewberry, Gregory G. Griswould and David Todd Harris.

The commissioners also approved transfers of appropriations for the sheriff ’s office and the assessor’s office, as well as for the county’s general government account.

The commissioners meet at 10 a.m. each Monday at the county courthouse annex.
