Central teams sweep Gans, whose squads fall twice to Cave Springs

The Central High School basketball teams ended their pre-Christmas Break portion of their season on high notes as they swept a pair of games from the host Gans squads on Dec. 16 at Bryant “Big Country” Reeves Fieldhouse.

The Lady Tigers began the night with a 6822 win over the Lady Grizzlies, then the Tigers tamed the Grizzlies 79-16.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Tigers (4-1) jumped out to a 14-6 lead after a quarter en route to a 35-8 halftime advantage and a 53-9 lead after three periods.

For the game, Cambree Bair scored a gamehigh 19 points and Paris Campbell added 18 points to lead Central, followed by Sadie Huff with eight points, Cheyenne Busch with seven points, Sara Williams with six points, Sarah Buchanan and Alexxus Bolin with four points each and Charlie Petree with two points.

In defeat, Nora Barnes led the Lady Grizzlies (4-6) with nine points, followed by Skilynn Bird with six points, Valan Harper with four points, Abigail Leach with two points and KrisLynn Martin with a free throw.

In the boys’ game, the Tigers (4-0) jumped out to a 23-2 lead after the first quarter and never were headed.

For the game, three players, Josh Brunk, Noah Buzzard and Kiefer Bailey, each scored a game-high 10 points to lead Central, followed by Jake Woods, Brycen Chandler-Eisman and Cale Stewart with eight points each, Braxin Goodson with five points, Gavin Randolph, Paitton Merrill, Aiden Cawhorn and Kage Poindexter with four points each and Ryder Justice and Jace Money with two points apiece.

In defeat, Bryce Stevens scored eight points to lead the Grizzlies (27), who had their twogame winning streak snapped, followed by Hunter Edwards with five points, Austin Hines with two points and Aiden Garcia with a free throw.

It made the second straight night of double losses for the Gans teams as just 24 hours before they were swept Dec.15 at Cave Springs as the Lady Grizzlies lost 41-31 and the Grizzlies fell 62-33.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Hornets virtually led from start to finish, taking a 14-5 lead after a period, a 25-14 halftime advantage and a 3222 lead into the fourth quarter.

In defeat, Nora Barnes and Skilynn Bird each scored a gamehigh 12 points to lead Gans, followed by Valan Harper with five points and Makinzie Kimble with two points.

In the boys’ game, the Hornets stung the Grizzlies with a 21-8 opening quarter en route to a 31-16 halftime lead and a 47-23 advantage after three periods.

In defeat, Jessie Phillips led Gans with 15 points, followed by Bryce Stevens and Aiden Garcia with six points each, Austin Hines with four points and Preston Bennett with two points.
